Trust should not be given; it should be earned. Yet, when I look at so much of what government actors are doing, I have to ask, why should we trust any of them? After all, we all know the joke, “How can you tell when a politician is lying?” The answer, of course, is “When their lips are moving!” Yet, still today, millions of Americans are placing their blind faith in the idea that government actors will do the right thing. I’m sure thousands of government employees are doing their best. However, the closer you get to policymaking, the more likely people will place politics above what is right.
So I ask you, if I can show you all the times the government has lied to us, harmed us, or hidden important data from us, why should I trust them? Can anyone, with a straight face, give me a good reason why anyone should trust government actors?
