It is great to see President Trump taking action to strengthen our military to a time when training to fight and win wars was a priority. He made it noticeably clear that DEI policies and the Woke agenda will be totally removed from our military forces.
These policies and agendas have served no purpose other than negatively affecting the morale and welfare of our military forces and causing division among the ranks.
Had Donald Trump not been elected to office, we may have witnessed an unprecedented downfall of our military might as a result of these destructive, divisive policies of the Biden administration. Policies that put our national security in grave danger.
What the public may not be aware of is the Biden administration went to great lengths to indoctrinate all members of the United States Armed Forces into accepting DEI policies and the Woke agenda as their primary mission, thus replacing the warrior ethos.
Our military’s mission has always been primarily to fight and win wars. This is the warrior ethos — to fight and win wars. This is why we have never lost a war.
Our army, navy, marines, air force, and other military services have always been combat-ready to meet any enemy challenge against us anywhere on this earth.
President Ronald Reagan knew full well, and now President Donald Trump knows that there is only one way to discourage enemies of the United States from taking military action against us-that policy being peace through strength.
Unfortunately, when Obama and later Biden took control of our military, the peace through strength policies went out the door. It was replaced with social engineering policies like DEI, cuts in our defense budget, and unprecedented and dangerous policies like the Woke agenda that weakened our ability to prevent aggressive military actions against us and to fight and win a war if one was started against us by a foreign enemy.
The majority of American people did not notice what was going on with our military. But, be assured our enemies, especially the Chinese communists, noticed.
Let us take a step back in recent history when President Ronald Reagan was elected to the office of President of the United States.
Reagan restored America’s military superiority, which was reduced to near rubbles as a result of President Jimmy Carter’s policies. Policies that put our national security in jeopardy.
While the Soviet Union was building a massive military machine, the United States, under the Carter administration, was reducing its defense budget.
I believe it was the Heritage Foundation at that time that warned that the character of the cuts proposed by the Carter administration may weaken rather than strengthen our national defense. And that is precisely what happened.
And the two people on the world stage who noticed what was happening to our military were Ronald Reagan and the Soviet President.
When Reagan took office, he immediately proposed budget increases to strengthen all branches of our U.S. military. He introduced the “StarWars” missile defense program, the Air Force’s B-1B Bomber, and a “600-ship” Navy. Why six hundred ships? We need a Navy capable of fighting a two-ocean war, the Atlantic and Pacific.
Reagan’s peace through strength policies worked and forced Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev to the table, which eventually led to the fall of the Soviet Union.
Today, President Trump is faced with the mess Biden has made of our military. Similar to the mess Carter left Reagan.
What Biden did to our military was worse than what Carter did to our military during his term in office. The strengthening of our military was not a priority of the Biden administration.
The military has not reached recruitment goals to refill its ranks, and retirements have been unusually high.
Instead of increasing qualifications to enlist in our military services, the Biden administration decreased qualifications because they simply could not get many people to join.
A Pew Research Center report shows that only 23% of young people qualify for the military, and a majority of Americans aged 18 to 29 have a negative view of the armed forces altogether. It has been reported that we have had the smallest active-duty force since 1940.
What most Americans may not know is that after the January 6, 2021, riot at the Capitol, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, under the direction of Biden, ordered our military to stand down (meaning) to give commanders time to address “extremism” in their ranks.
He ordered military commanders to speak to their personnel about the importance of their oath of office and “impermissible behaviors” and procedures to report “suspected or actual extremist behavior.”
This order to stand down and address something that was not widespread in the military was unprecedented, not necessary, and dangerous. It took our fighting forces from the battlefield into the classroom. It turned a united, cohesive fighting force into divided groups of people who feared that their freedom of speech was no more.
When this order was issued, many questions needed to be answered. For example, who would determine what impermissible behavior is? Who defines what “extremism” is?
What many of us concluded was that this policy was an attempt to target conservatives in the military and threaten them with punishment if their speech and actions did not conform to the DEI policies and Woke agenda being introduced to the military.
Now, keep in mind that the Biden administration stated that there was a widespread problem with extremists in the military. This is the justification they used to issue this order.
Yet, White House Communications Advisor, John Kirby, admitted that “the vast majority of men and women who serve in uniform and the military are doing so with honor, integrity, and character, and do not espouse the sorts of beliefs that lead to the kind of conduct that can be so detrimental to good order and discipline and in fact, is criminal.”
If what John Kirby said is true, then why subject the entire United States military to a political litmus test, like what the soviet military did to their military and what the Chinese Communist Party is doing with their military today?
My point is that Austin and Kirby contradicted themselves, which, at least to me, shows that the Biden administration was on a road to politicalize our military and thus jeopardize our national security.
Who determines what impermissible behavior is? Will that person be a commander who supports DEI and the Woke agenda who hears a conservative member of his military unit express opposition to his or her position during a conversation with a liberal? Will that person be a superior officer who is an atheist and sees a Christian member of the military praying to determine this to be an extremist act?
Under this policy, our troops would have to worry about who they spoke with and how they expressed themselves in both public and private settings.
The only conclusion I can come to regarding this dangerous policy that Biden has implemented into our military is taking the first steps to politicize our military. Steps that are taken in Communist countries via political officers assigned to the ranks.
Like Reagan, President Trump is taking America on a similar journey to strengthen our military by implementing peace through strength policies.
In all my years of military service, I can say that the Department of Defense and all branches of the U.S. military have been models for keeping widespread discrimination, extremism, corruption, criminal behavior, and other things that would disrupt the good order, morale, and ability to fight and win wars, away from the overwhelming majority of our men and women in the military.
Let us all be thankful that Donald Trump got elected to office and has taken the first steps to rid our military and our nation of socialist, communist policies that would lead us to eventual destruction.
The better path to address suspected extremists and criminal behavior in the ranks is to investigate each allegation on a case-by-case basis within the framework of the Constitution of the United States.
If our military personnel were going to be subjected to a political litmus test to evaluate their speech, behavior, and actions, the next step would have been to administer the same test to all branches of government, our businesses, schools, and elsewhere.
The problem was not the military but the White House. Thanks to the people of the United States, the problem is gone, never to return.
