“How can you tell when a politician is lying?” No matter how many times I ask that question, I get answers like “their lips are moving!” or “they’re talking!” I even had one person say, “They’re breathing!” And it’s not just politicians, but bureaucrats at all levels of both governments, the media, and businesses are lying to us, yet we keep trusting what they say. How many times must the American people be lied to before they begin to question what they’re being told? As I was taught as a child, “Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice; shame on me.” To which I’ve added, “Fool me 10,000 times, and I’m probably an American voter!”

It’s about time the American people realize that those in Washington, D.C., our statehouses, city halls, media, and business have been crying wolf for years. Sure, we can focus on COVID-19, but how many of you remember “The New Ice Age” and “Overpopulation” scares of the 1970s? How many times were we told that the world would end from “global warming” or “climate change” by the year 2000, 2010, or 2020, only to find the threat wildly exaggerated?

And how long before our trust in these institutions has been so degraded that even if there were a serious threat, no one would believe them? What can we do to defend ourselves against the bureaucrats who cried wolf?

  • Paul Engel

Author and speaker Paul Engel has spent more than 20 years studying and teaching about both the Bible and the U.S. Constitution. That experience helps Paul explain difficult concepts in a way most people can understand. As one manager described, “Paul can take the most complex idea and explain it in a way my grandmother can understand.” Freely admitting that he “learned more about our Constitution from School House Rock (a Saturday morning cartoon) than in 12 years of school,” he says that anyone can be a constitutional scholar. Since 2014 I have been helping everyday Americans read and study the Constitution of their country and teaching the rising generation to be free. Using news and current events as a springboard, I explain the Constitution and encourage others to stand up and secure the blessings of liberty for themselves, their children, and the nation.
