The “Last Supper” Jesus held with his Apostles before his Crucifixion was actually a Passover Seder since Jesus had entered Jerusalem just four days before the Jewish High Sabbath of Passover. This is referred to as Jesus’ Triumphal entry, symbolizing the King coming in peace. There is deep symbolism in the Passover Seder that is often not taught in our churches today. Yet, it is powerfully important for Christians to all that God was revealing in The Telling of the Passover that relates to God’s plan of salvation for mankind as fulfilled by Christ’s death and resurrection.
So what does the Jewish Passover Seder actually mean for Christians? Each symbolic step in the progression of the traditional Passover Seder points to Christ and his work of salvation—now and at the end of days.
The Passover Seder emblems of Matzah and Wine symbolically represented Christ’s body and blood. Christ himself fulfilled the Passover miracle as the “Lamb of God who taketh away the sins of the world” (Matthew 26:17-29; Luke 22:7-20).
