“In these days of aggressive self-assertion, when the stress of competition is so keen and the desire to make the most of oneself so universal, it may seem a little old fashioned to preach the necessity of this virtue, but I insist… a due humility should take the place of honor [on the list of virtues.] William Osler, in an 1892 speech to medical students,
A curious thing happened this month in the Annals of Internal Medicine — an article from the Mayo Clinic examined the obvious loss of integrity in our profession. The title of the article is the perfect summary: “Physician Humility: A Review & Call to Revive Virtue in Medicine.”
The opening line sets the tone: “Medicine as a profession is suffering from an identity crisis.”
The article evaluates the need for humility which has been so absent for decades and which the COVID catastrophe clearly exposed. Despite the apparent absence of spirituality in its discussion, the authors provide an important context we should all acknowledge in order to begin to heal not only for our patients but for us and the culture at large.
When Fauci claims to “Represent the Science” or Deborah Birx, a lifetime bureaucratic physician, writes a 450-page autobiography, something is amiss. Those who are the guardians, at all levels, of ‘The Science’ have exposed themselves too much by avoiding all accountability and silencing any debate. Maybe they’re right. As gods of truth, they have rebranded Science to that of dogma and dictates — and we’re all the worse for it.
In our second segment, we continue discussing the absence of humility in our profession. Given last week’s declaration by Florida’s State Surgeon discouraging further COVID injections in his state, one has to wonder when the other state surgeons will follow suit. In a way, it is bewildering the obvious disdain that our profession has heaped on itself over the past five years has fallen on deaf ears in all the other states.
It has been several months since we spoke to anyone who recently received another poisonous shot. Hardly anyone is rolling up their sleeves for any more of the jabs. It’s not because of a successful campaign by those on our side; it’s because the vast majority of the American public doesn’t believe them to be “Completely Safe & Effective.” To that end, we close out the segment by discussing a recently published paper in the journal Vaccine from Spain that shows further evidence of the shots’ cardiac dangers.
In our final segment, we review a few more pieces of evidence that reveal the lack of humility by the gods of current ‘Science’ as we review the latest evidence from c19study.com that shows more proof of benefits from inexpensive and readily available repurposed agents like Ivermectin (Ivermectin for COVID-19: real-time meta-analysis of 105 studies (ivmmeta) (c19ivm.org)), Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ for COVID-19: real-time meta-analysis of 415 studies (c19hcq.org)), Budesonide (Budesonide for COVID-19: real-time meta-analysis of 15 studies (c19early.org)), and spironolactone (Spironolactone for COVID-19: real-time meta-analysis of 12 studies (c19early.org)).
