There is a 1960s movie about a group of motorists who witness a car crash. The driver’s last words hint at the location of a hidden stash of loot. What happens next are the crazy antics of the witnesses trying to find the hidden treasure. While this was only a movie, it reminds me of what the world has become lately. Think about it: first, we had the presidential debate that led many leaders in the Democratic Party to call for Joe Biden to drop out of the race. Then, last week, that’s exactly what he did, enforcing that his Vice President, Kamala Harris, be the nominee. Only there are those who don’t seem quite ready to endorse her yet. Then there was the assassination attempt on Donald Trump, which has led to bipartisan finger-pointing, accusations, and recriminations.
Rudyard Kipling wrote a power that started: “If you can keep your head when all about you Are losing theirs and blaming it on you.” That’s what I think we should strive for keeping our heads while others are losing theirs.
