In this Q&A episode of Nurses Out Loud, David, Nicole, and Ashley discuss conflict inside MAHA over the nomination of Dr. Casey Means as Surgeon General; their other topic is the FDA’s architect of Operation Warp Speed, Dr. Peter Marks, and his replacement, Dr. Vinay Prasad.
There has been a theme regarding President Trump’s appointments: He prioritizes great communicators; Casey Means is undoubtedly that, perhaps too good? Critics have noticed that she won’t publicly condemn the COVID-19 vaccines, she was not outspoken during the COVID-19 debacle ⎯ unlike Dr. Kelly Victory and Dr. Mary Talley Bowden, and her sudden origin as a MAHA leader is suspect.
Is Casey Means a ‘manchurian candidate?’
Nicole Shanahan thinks it’s possible. Is the MAHA movement being sabotaged from within? We knew that the medical industrial complex would not be reformed without a fight, and in these early stages, sometimes it is difficult to distinguish friend from foe in the fog of war.
Peter Marks is gone from the FDA, leaving behind a legacy that has left the organization’s reputation in shambles and the health of many Americans in ruin. His replacement might be Vinay Prasad; is this an improvement?
