A woman’s menstrual cycle is a crucial indicator of hormonal balance, often referred to as the fifth vital sign for women. However, many women experience hormonal imbalances and fertility challenges. One of the most common imbalances is estrogen dominance, which can result in irregular cycles, painful periods, and infertility. Estrogen dominance occurs when estrogen levels are too high relative to progesterone, and this imbalance is often influenced by factors such as poor diet, chronic stress, and exposure to environmental toxins. Ensuring adequate intake of essential minerals and nutrients like magnesium, zinc, and B vitamins is critical for maintaining hormonal health, as deficiencies in these nutrients can worsen hormonal imbalances.
Environmental toxins, such as endocrine-disrupting chemicals and xenoestrogens, are commonly found in everyday products like plastics, personal care items, processed foods, and feminine hygiene products. These substances mimic estrogen in the body, contributing to estrogen dominance and increasing the risk of infertility and other hormonal issues. Furthermore, the misuse of birth control is a significant concern. While often prescribed to manage symptoms of hormonal imbalance, birth control does not address the root causes. It can lead to long-term consequences, including an increased risk of cancer, stroke, and nutrient deficiencies. Birth control depletes essential vitamins and minerals, including B6, B12, folate, magnesium, and zinc, all of which are vital for maintaining hormone balance and overall health.
Natural hormone healing involves supporting the body with proper nutrition and detoxification. A diet rich in organic, whole foods, healthy fats, and quality proteins can help nourish the body and support hormone production. Supplements like N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC) can enhance fertility by reducing oxidative stress and lowering the risk of miscarriage. Low-dose naltrexone (LDN) has also been shown to benefit fertility through its anti-inflammatory properties and immune system modulation.
It’s important to consider that vaccines have not been thoroughly tested for their impact on fertility. They also contain ingredients like formaldehyde, raising concerns about their effect on reproductive health. Taking a holistic approach to these factors can help restore hormone balance and improve fertility outcomes naturally.
Our guest today is Meghan Cosgrove with Steadfast Functional Health. Meghan is a Registered Nurse and board-certified functional medicine practitioner. She has a deep passion for women’s health and is a mother of three living in Missouri. With years of experience in labor and delivery, she has witnessed firsthand the strength and resilience of the human body while helping women through childbirth and caring for newborns.
Her personal health journey began during her time following a strict, plant-based vegan lifestyle, which unexpectedly led to hormonal imbalances, brain fog, acne, mood swings, and irregular periods. Frustrated with feeling unwell despite adhering to what she thought were healthy practices, Meghan began to question conventional medicine and its quick-fix solutions.
Through her exploration of different healing paths, she discovered the profound need to reconnect with her spiritual health. By prioritizing her relationship with God and addressing the root causes of her symptoms, Meghan experienced significant improvements in her overall well-being—her mind cleared, her skin healed, and she regained emotional balance.
Inspired by her transformation, Meghan became board-certified as a Functional Medical Practitioner and founded Steadfast Functional Health, LLC. Today, she empowers women to uncover the root causes of their health struggles, helping them achieve vibrant, balanced lives.
Outside of her work, Meghan enjoys spending time in the kitchen making homemade meals and tending to her garden, where she finds peace in growing her own food. She treasures the time she spends with her three children, who are her greatest joy.
