We are told that electric cars are the future; automobile manufacturers will soon phase out internal combustion engine cars and our highways will be full of safe, clean, and efficient personal electric vehicles (EVs). But no one should believe this hype. EVs are hugely expensive, have limited range, don’t work well in either hot or cold weather, and burn furiously when the battery ignites.
There is not now, nor ever will there ever be, sufficient electric power for us to travel hither and yon with battery-powered vehicles. And EVs can never be produced in the numbers the government wants because of a lack of necessary rare earth minerals held hostage in China.
To help our listeners understand the hoax of the EV, we are joined by California-based engineer Ron Stein. Ron explains that, when one counts the emissions produced when generating the electricity to power the vehicles as well as the mining, material processing, manufacturing, and transportation involved in making the vehicles, especially their energy-intensive batteries, there really is no significant emissions saving.
The mining and mineral processing occurring in developing countries with minimal environmental and working regulations that exploit people with yellow skin, brown skin, and black skin, also require large volumes of water and can pose contamination and degradation risks from mine drainage and wastewater discharge.
Ron is a licensed professional engineer and Founder and Ambassador for Energy & Infrastructure of the California-based organization PTS Advance. He holds a bachelor of science in electrical engineering from California State University, Northridge. Ron’s first career was in project management and engineering roles with major international engineering firms, Fluor and Bechtel. Ron works now to increase Energy & Infrastructure education and literacy in the wider public sphere. He is an internationally published columnist and energy expert who writes frequently about all aspects of energy and economics.
Join Dr. Jay Lehr, Tom Harris, and guest engineer Ron Stein in this week’s episode of The Other Side of the Story to learn how the wool has been pulled over our eyes on the electric vehicle. It is neither clean, nor ethically responsible, financially viable, or affordable. It is merely a toy of the rich. All government support of this wasteful technology should be canceled at once!
