Dear Dr McCullough,
In this Cartesian crisis you describe (i.e. an increasing number of people denying the existence of the virus, due to turning away fully from science that is corrupted), there is a lot more to be said regarding the severity of the virus, rather than whether it exists or not. If something is a part of life, does it make sense to live our lives differently? Which is why the flu is a relevant comparison and those people not willing to discuss Covid as anything out of the ordinary are right from the perspective of severity (even if the virus does exist).

The most evident point to make regarding severity of the virus itself and not the group at risk: the US is not the world and therefore the most reliable indicator of the virus severity is a global comparison with regional benchmarks. In that perspective, there has not been any excess mortality in a lot of countries, even though everyone had been infected by now. Surely you agree that severity therefore is not universal, but rather the regional populations and measures taken?
Especially where they decided not to implement extreme measures, especially the ones applied in the US (Remdesivir, ventilators), the outcome was drastically different from the US.
A good example is Germany: even though they fully applied the Covid protocols (distancing, masks, isolation), if we correct for the population increase during the pandemic years, there has actually not been a significant excess mortality in this large country.
Another example at the other end of the spectrum is Hungary with significant excess death: a highly obese population with a bad healthcare system where isolation instead of treatment led to a huge number of deaths, plus most likely manipulated data. Does this tell us something about virus severity or rather the catastrophic state of healthcare resulting in more harm than good?

The other most obvious aspect is the general population mix, putting certain ethnic groups more at risk, predominantly black people with a chronically low vitamin D level, the US is leading here.
While I agree with you that this still means that there would still have been significant excess mortality in the US due to the population mix, we do not know how high it would have been without the measures that led to the bulk of these deaths, foremost the destruction of the immune system of an already sick population living on fast food, fluoridated water, glyphosate everywhere, obesity, drugs, etc.
At the end of the day, the only thing that matters is not whether the virus was real, because we may be able to isolate any pathogen we want, if we look for it. The only question is lethality.
And in that sense, as soon as we put this particular virus on a pedestal, we are predestining it for something more than just another virus.
In that sense, does it matter whether we deny its existence or not?
If I say that the air I breathe is poison, will it make any difference if I start behaving differently? Will my measures beyond any doubt prove to provide more protection than trying to live a healthy life so I do not die from breathing this “toxic” air?
While I do not agree that there was no virus, it is not the relevant question. The question is: should we do anything against something that is just there? CAN we do anything against it?
My opinion: no. We can only live a healthy life to prevent from getting ill. Anything that goes beyond that will be counterproductive in a complex system that is virology.
I understand your attempts at prevention via commercial products like nose and throat cleaning, but in my opinion the human organism is too complex to be treated for one issue and this will backfire in some form. Perhaps it destroys mucus and therefore immunity, perhaps it absorbs the chemicals in these sprays, at the end of the day it will never be proven whether interventions make sense.

To conclude, the only way to live a healthy life is by eating, resting well and avoiding unnecessary mental stress, the latter is crucial. The fearmongering regarding viruses, even when meant well, does not help.

I very much appreciate your open discourse, your courage and help, but I think that the real healing is not in inflating the effects of this virus, but in stressing the importance of a healthy lifestyle.
