Ever since Al Gore’s documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, came out in 2006, students across the Western world have been inundated with frightening climate change propaganda. So, it is not surprising that surveys show that many children, even those in primary school, regularly experience climate change-related anxiety and depression. Tell an impressionable youngster that many of us will soon die in a fiery carbon dioxide-induced climate catastrophe often enough, and many will soon believe it.
America Out Loud listeners will be relieved to hear that The CO2 Coalition, an Arlington, Virginia-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit group, is tackling this problem head-on with climate realist education designed to both inform and entertain young people. To learn about this important development, one which is already improving the lives of thousands of children, we have invited Dr. Sharon Camp to be our guest today. Dr. Camp is the Senior Education Advisor for the CO2 Coalition and creator of CO2 Learning Center lesson plans.
Dr. Camp has a bachelor’s degree in geology from the University of Georgia and a Ph.D. in analytical chemistry from Georgia Tech. She has worked in industry, for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and as an advanced placement environmental science teacher. Dr. Camp was certified to teach grade 9-12 science in the state of Georgia and has twenty years of experience as a science teacher. Before her recent retirement, she taught high school Advanced Placement (AP) Environmental Science for fifteen years. She was a reader (grader) for the yearly national AP Environmental Science exam for nine years.
Tune in today for an uplifting discussion about re-educating our children about the realities of climate change and carbon dioxide!
