World still ‘on the brink of climate catastrophe’ after the COP27 deal  |  Experts say it’s not enough; the world’s biggest economies must pledge more cuts to carbon emissions. Climate Catastrophe Cancelled should be the real message of COP27 is the takeaway. Dr. Jay Lehr and Tom Harris join me on this episode of The Voice of a Nation to explore the world’s biggest scandal.

The Guardian mirrored the same talking points that other news agencies were boasting about: The world still stands “on the brink of climate catastrophe” after the deal was reached at the COP27 United Nations climate summit. The biggest economies must make fresh commitments to cut greenhouse gas emissions, climate experts and campaigners have warned. The agreement reached in Sharm el-Sheikh early on Sunday morning, after a marathon final negotiating session that ran 40 hours beyond its deadline, was hailed for providing poor countries for the first time with financial assistance known as loss and damage. A fund will be set up by rich governments for the rescue and rebuilding of vulnerable areas stricken by climate disaster, a key demand of developing nations for the last 30 years of climate talks.

But the outcome has widely been judged a failure in efforts to cut carbon dioxide after oil-producing countries and high emitters weakened and removed key commitments on greenhouse gases and phasing out fossil fuels.

The Security and Exchange Commission has No Business Making Climate Change Policy  |  A new Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) proposed rule is the cutting edge of the environment, social, and governance (ESG) movement’s campaign to align private capital investment with an aggressive climate policy agenda — one that aims to cut greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions dramatically by 2030 and achieve a net zero emission economy by 2050. To sum up, the scientific, economic, and political assumptions on which net zero investing is based are detached from reality. Somebody should warn the public of the risks to investors. If not the Commission, then who?

Jay Lehr, Ph.D., is a Senior Policy Analyst with the International Climate Science Coalition and former Science Director of The Heartland Institute. Tom Harris is the executive director of the Ottawa, Canada-based International Climate Science Coalition.
