Our modern society has adopted a very specific set of values and beliefs that have been accepted as facts. Yet, unlike scientific facts, this mainstream narrative is often not founded upon evidence but on feelings and emotions based on so-called social justice. This has seeped into the climate change debate, where dogmatic opinions prevail. Despite our freedom of speech, speaking against the mainstream narrative can have devastating consequences, especially for professors in universities.

Consequently, it has become nearly impossible to have rational discussions about many scientific topics. People argue over ideologies and are defensive and aggressive when asked simple scientific questions about topics such as climate change. When it comes to science, questioning is key, but we often hear that the science of climate change is settled. This is extremely misguided: a field of inquiry can never be settled in an area as complex as climate science.

Hosts Tom Harris and Mary-Jean Harris interview Dr. Judith Curry, a climate scientist who has experienced firsthand the intolerance inside academia of differing points of view. Dr. Curry is the president and founder of Climate Forecast Applications Network, an innovative weather and climate forecasting organization. She is a climate scientist and was a Professor and Chair of the School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at the Georgia Institute of Technology for thirteen years. Judith received a Ph.D. in Geophysical Sciences from the University of Chicago. Her latest book, Climate Uncertainty and Risk, was published this year.

Join hosts Tom Harris and Mary-Jean Harris with guest Dr. Judith Curry on this week’s episode of The Other Side of the Story as they explore Dr. Curry’s experience inside the university system and what we really know about climate change.
