Dr. Michael Scheuer and Colonel Mike spoke with former Virginia state Senator Richard Black on The National Security Hour.
Senator Black was a Marine helicopter pilot in Vietnam, flying 269 combat missions. Later in his military career, Senator Black served in the Judge Advocate General (JAG) Corps as a prosecutor with the U.S. Black later headed the Army’s Criminal Law Division at the Pentagon.
Since leaving the Virginia Senate, Senator Black has become increasingly active in U.S. foreign policy.
Senator Black spoke about Syria, to which he has traveled. Senator Black met with President Assad and his wife. Black said that both President Assad and Mrs. Assad were very impressive people. He noted that Assad has been helpful in using his law-enforcement agencies and military in trying to protect Christians from murders and rapes perpetrated on them by al-Qaeda, ISIS, and other Islamist groups in the country.
Islamic State included Senator Black in a list of its enemies. ISIS called him “The American Crusader,” quoting the following statement by Black: “One thing is clear, if Damascus falls, the dreaded black and white flag of ISIS will fly over Damascus. Senator Black warned that after a period of months after the fall of Damascus, Jordan will fall, and Lebanon will fall. I think you will automatically see the beginning of a historic push of Islam towards Europe, and I think, ultimately, Europe will be conquered.”
President Assad was critical about the unrelentingly destructive policies of the U.S. government toward Syria. Senator Black agreed and described President Obama as the biggest warmonger of all American presidents.
Senator Black noted that under Obama, in the aftermath of Gadhafi’s murder, the CIA sent large volumes of arms and ammunition from Libyan stockpiles to al-Qaeda and ISIS. This was an action that caused the deaths of thousands of Syrian civilians, both Muslims and Christians.
Senator Black said that no terrorist of any group is popular in Syria and that the U.S. forces still in Syria have been operating under orders that only add to the suffering of the Syrian people.
Based in northern Syria, the U.S. troops were ordered to seize an Assad-regime-developed agricultural area that produced an amount of wheat that fed both the Syrian people and allowed for exports to other Middle East countries that need wheat.
Senator Black stated that such U.S. policies suggest that those who conduct and approve of U.S. foreign policy have no morals, no God, and no respect for humanity.
Senator Black will return to discuss the Ukraine war.
