Freedom of speech, or free speech, is the fundamental concept of American society. It has always been and hopefully will always be the single biggest influence our society has had on every aspect of life and liberty throughout the world. Free speech is a constitutionally defended human right, one bestowed upon everyone regardless of gender, sex, religion, race, nationality, or any other identifying factor. The question of “Why is Free Speech so important?” seems foreign to many rational thinkers. As Americans, we must understand exactly what was going on with the impeachment 2.0 of former President Donald Trump. I say former because the definition of impeachment is a process that is used to charge, try, and remove public officials for misconduct while in office. Let us remember that President Trump had already left office, and removing him was not necessary. Those of the more left-leaning of our society will say he needed to be punished for his statements about fighting. This argument alone is so hypocritical because we would be impeaching the current president and vice president and arresting half the democrats in office if this were true. We must ask ourselves, what was this really about?
