In this episode of Rogers for America, I discuss the U.S. government’s policy regarding the Ukraine-Russia conflict, with concerns about the U.S. pulling back from NATO and global military deployments.
There are potential implications if the U.S. decides to withdraw from NATO, including increased aggression from Russia and Iran, and the formation of a new NATO without U.S. involvement.
We are already seeing serious implications from what is now being perceived as a lack of U.S. leadership in global conflicts.
The United States has always done whatever it takes, from diplomacy to military action, to secure freedom, liberty, and individual rights around the world. But that’s not what is happening right now in the 21st century.
Why are US forces beginning to leave Europe, the Middle East, and Africa?
We have military bases in Germany, France, England, and many other countries around the world. But we’re beginning to close those military bases, and we’re beginning to bring all of our troops home. The question that many people have been asking for a long time is: “Is this a wise thing to do?”
I ponder that thought many times, because as much as I have spoken against NATO as an organization that has not done anything to help secure peace over the past two decades, I don’t know if it’s a really good idea that we pull our troops out of these European and Asian countries.
I’m still trying to figure out what is the cause of all this, why we’re doing it, and is it going to be beneficial to us? President Ronald Reagan discussed this topic and shaped our foreign policy to include the forward deployment of U.S. military forces as a deterrent to our enemies.
Our drawing down of military forces around the world has not deterred but emboldened our enemies. For example, Vladimir Putin decided to increase his attacks on Ukraine as soon as the United States began to show some sort of withdrawal from NATO and the European Union. Also, the drawing down of our military presence from the global stage has resulted in Iran increasing attacks through its proxies, like the Houthis in Yemen.
We need to make it clear that America’s pursuit of an “America First” policy does not mean complete isolation, but rather strategic, principled global engagement. In other words, America First does not mean America Alone.
Matthew 26:52 – “Then Jesus said to him, ‘Put your sword back into its place. For all who take the sword will perish by the sword.’”
